We believe in grace — until it offends our sense of fairness. The parable of the vineyard workers wasn’t about wages, it was about pride. We often resent God’s grace when it challenges the standing we think we’ve earned. But Jesus’ words are clear: “the last will be first, and the first last.”
We’re proud of our traditions, our tithes, and our missions—but Jesus warns that if we neglect justice, mercy, and faithfulness, we’ve missed the weightier matters of the law. In a world where theology can become an excuse for cold religion, we must recover God’s heart. He isn’t impressed with our outward piety if it comes at the expense of love.
Jesus didn’t say you shouldn't serve God and money. He said you can't. Yet, many churches attempt to balance allegiance to both — redefining faithfulness in economic terms. In doing so, we sound far more like the Pharisees than Jesus.
Jesus doesn’t separate faith from compassion. In Matthew 25:40, he says our treatment of the hungry, the stranger, and the prisoner is how we treat him. Many Christians today dismiss care for the vulnerable as optional. But Jesus makes it central. It’s time to recover the gospel's forgotten mercy.
Many Christians admire boldness more than mercy. But Jesus says the merciful—not just the correct—are the blessed ones. In an age of outrage and theological pride, mercy isn’t optional. It’s the mark of those who’ve received God’s heart. We must return to Jesus’ vision: truth expressed through compassion and grace.
